“What about your spark plug wires?”
Lance said.
She turned and her face became
slightly red. “I, uh...I forgot my purse,” she lied.
Lance smiled, his straight white
teeth glistening in the sun. Then he nodded and winked.
Her eyes shot wide open in
astonishment; she coughed once.
Lance bowed and walked toward the
parts house.
Enin didn’t put the key in the
ignition. She didn’t adjust the mirrors. She didn’t put on her seatbelt.
Did that kid just wink at me? Like wink-wink? Like a guy winks at a
girl? No way. Of all the people in the world to take an interest in me,
does it have to be some egotistical, inactive kid from Cali?
Lance Morris, a young man on the run
from himself and his religion, finds himself in Magna, Utah without a
car, without a job, and without a friend in the world. But soon he finds
himself hiding from more that just his painful upbringing. Lance’s
impulsive behavior thrusts him into a dangerous situation. To make
matters worse, he inadvertently drags his new roommate’s quirky sister
into the mess.
Minding her own business has never been Enin Woodson's
strong suit, so when a new kid shows up at her brothers house she is all
about making sure he doesn't do anything to negatively influence her
already less active brother. At least that’s what she means to do. The
reality is she just ends up alienating her brother even more.
Enin and Lance soon discover; however, that while each may
have their own personal agendas, when the going gets tough, even the
tough do better as a team.
